Sensor array signal processing and sparse arrays
The course focuses on the fundamentals of sensor array processing. Sensor arrays are used in day to day communication systems such as mobile phones, in deep space exploration and radio astronomy, in radars which serve both civilian and military applications, and in health monitoring and assited living. The course focuses on fundamentals of beamforming, optimal beamformer designs including data-optimal designs, direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation, DOA identifiability guarantees, radar signal processing, and well known algorithms such as MUSIC, ESPRIT, and sparse recovery methods for DOA estimation. The course also introduces sparse arrays such as nested and coprime arrays, which have become an integral part of array processing research. Offered alternate years; offered 2026-27.
